Toccata on Ardgowan

organ (5')

Toccata on Ardgowan is a virtuosic organ piece that uses fragments of the classic Methodist hymn tune as source material. The work is a revised and edited standalone version of the final movement of my Organ Suite: Silvered Pacific, composed in 2017.

Each of the suite’s movements explores a different musical genre, and Toccata on Ardgowan is written in the style of the French romantic organ school of the late 1800's. I studied works by Vierne, Gigout and Widor while composing to analyse how they handled thematic development and modulation, and my piece is intended as a homage to their tradition and skill.
